P.S. - Kip (the JAG insider) does NOT read or respond to posts on this site.
Current News/Gossip:
UPDATE: I have a new/different job and am unable at this time to keep up with Kip's Q&A. I recommend a couple of good sites out there that post all of the latest news from Kip. Please visit either The Rose Garden Spoiler and News or Bud Lovers Anonymous News or Spoilers for the latest info from Kip. I will try to post pertinent Mac/CB news here though!
2/5/03 Tidbits about Catherine/Mac:
Q: I still maintain the kissing scene had an element of awkwardness to it &I've seen both actors appear more comfortable with other partners
A: This is why I LOL when I read shipper comments about the obvious UST between DJE and CB on camera. The kiss says it all.
From Kip:
CB is a very nice person to work with and has been for seven years. Her first pregnancy has created difficulties for her and us in filming. But in no way does that mean that she has basically changed her wonderful attitude toward the crew and work. All pregnant women have odd requests at times--what DPB calls the "Pickles and Ice Cream at 2 a.m." syndrome. CB is no different.
DJE and CB are two actors doing a gig. Fans often confuse the actors with the characters. The relationship is rarely the same on and off camera--Bogart/Bacall or Tracy/Hepburn are the exception, not the rule. I think David and Catherine get along quite well off camera, especially after working together for seven years, but they are different people with differing lifestyles, hobbies, interests and spouses.
1/6/03 About Mac this season:
Q: I thought you had said that they were going to film scenes from those last four episodes early so CB would still be available and not showing too much.
A: Never said not showing too much. In the last four episodes she will be pretending to be pregnant. They shoot the end of February.
Q: Will they film the last episode of the season then too? (refering to end of Feb)
A: Yes.
Holiday News from Harriet:
Happy Holidays, everyone. On Friday, JAG had its annual party before the holiday hiatus, which started today and runs through January 3rd. Since the weather here is better than anywhere I'd hoped to go, I decided to stay in L.A. and help the economy on December 26th in the malls instead.
Due to late filming on Thursday, the Friday lunch turned into dinner, and a festive occasion it was as our caterer outdid themselves with their annual contribution. Buffet tables groaned with lobster, steak and sushi, and I joked with Mark Horowitz, "If I'd known this was a typical meal at the set, I'd be here more often."
I arrived a bit early to enjoy some filming. It was the "Each of Us Angels" episode written by Darcy Meyers and directed by Bradford May. (He wasn't under too much pressure, not with late night shooting, an imminent party, and more filming to come after that before the holiday wrap. In spite of it all, Brad was his usual charming and friendly self.)
Luckily, Darcy and her parents were close by. I explained that I didn't read scripts (for the reason we all know by now) so I asked for a little insight into the scene before us. The time period was WW II (I did know that because of previous posts). The set was a hospital with bunk beds; due to lack of space, we watched from outside on a small black and white tv monitor. A badly injured sailor, played by Chuck Carrington, was being tended to by a Second Lt. played by DJE. They seemed to be reenacting a football game, with David trying valiantly to help alleviate the wounded man's obvious pain.
Darcy introduced me to her parents, and volunteered that her father had been a football coach and collaborated with her on the dialogue. After the take, Chuck, hardly recognizable, stopped to say hello. (His would be the first "congratulations" of the evening, as I had not seen the cast since baby arrivals and announcements.)
I only have this excuse for what followed: it was a dimly lit set and I had left my distance glasses in the car. I said my hello's and congratulations to DJE (does he get taller and better-looking as time goes by, and isn't this going against nature?). I looked around for Catherine, and someone pointed her out, sitting on the sidelines, knitting.
She was in costume and makeup, and as I walked over, I told her, "This is meant as a compliment, but I didn't recognize you!" She laughed (I hadn't noticed before that it's a musical sound, with notes up and down the scale.) "I waved to you, but you walked right by," she answered. "It's the wig, the nurse's uniform and cap...." I started, and she added, "And the dark lipstick." (You all be the judge, when you see the episode.)
The nurse's uniform camouflaged her quite well, although she did stand up to show me her silhouette. "Five months," she beamed. The wool she was using was dark, so I knew it wasn't intended for the baby. "I just learned to knit, on the movie set," she confided. "It's a Christmas gift."
And then it was time for the party, which was themed around the "JAG" families and their children. Patrick played Santa Claus, handing out toys to all ages, with wife Tina playing helper and Travis from our production office dressed as an elf. I invited a friend with her 4-year old son, who live nearby. (Austin is a young actor and can be seen in "Matrix 2" playing Keanu Reeves as a child.)
The lights in the dining room dimmed, too soon, a call to return to the set. Hope all your parties are as pleasant.
I missed seeing Karri Turner, who is on a USO tour to our troops in Afghanistan. A good moment to wish her and all the men and women in our military Safe Journey. Best, Harriet
